All image management would be done on the old system and everything else I do would be on the new one.Īll that fell apart when, within weeks of my purchase, the hard drive on my old mac failed.

My plan was to keep the older system on Mojave, forever, and have the two computers networked. And after having giving up hope finding a suitable alternative, I decided that I would upgrade my aging iMac and bought a new one. Īlong the way, I remained in Mojave so that I wouldn't lose functionality with MP. C1 comes about as close to MP as any but is way too complex for my needs. None has the flexibility as a DAM as MP had so many features were missing in every other app that I knew I wouldn't be happy with any of them. So, a couple years ago I started researching alternatives and trialed several packages, including PhotoSupreme, PhotoMechanic, Digikam, Neofinder, Bridge, Elements Organizer, a couple others that I have forgotten, and now Capture One. I am another long time iView/Media Pro user (first purchase was in 2002) and was wary that its lifetime was limited. I will be honest though and say I am sure I didn't give it enough time to properly absorb the paradigm! Could not see a way to determine that right off in PSP. When you click on an image in MP the collections it's in lights up orange. Interface – I try not to knock interfaces til I've lived with them and learned their quirks but I found it to be opaque. Among other things, this means offline annotating is not supported.

The "truth is in the file" rather than the catalog – annotating your images "touches" the actual file rather than maintaining those edits within the catalog file. I did do the trial and haven't pursued it further yet – for these reasons among others (maybe some of these are changed by now)ĭrag and drop of images between collections isn't supported Syncrasy has made a bunch of really helpful comments / posts in the Camera Bits forums geared toward questions from MP refugees, if you search for his username you will find them.

Hundreds of mpcatalogs, wow – you must be wrangling a ton of images! Photo Mechanic Plus is out of beta and available for purchase, so if you are a long time user and comfortable with the interface it's totally worth a look.
